EXPLORE CHINTSA
Above is a photo of the Chintsa Lagoon Mouth with the buildings of Buccaneers on the Beach in the background. My stables are exactly 1.7 km away directly inland behind Buccaneers Lodge on the Beach
The Xhosa word Chintsa is the name of the River that flows into the sea at this location. The Chintsa River has a tidal lagoon. At times, it is linked to the open ocean; at other times, it is closed off with a sand bar, creating a unique saltwater environment. The lagoon has many living creatures, from mud prawns and crabs to Kingfishers and Fish eagles. As is customary in this area, the land surrounding the river banks is given the river's name. In this case, it is Chintsa West and Chintsa East (historically Cintsa). The lagoon opens onto a sandy beach over 10 km long, lined with dunes and ancient dune forest, and is perfect for swimming, surfing, hiking, fishing and Kitesurfing. If one walks or rides along this beach towards the northeast, you will encounter three more lagoons, each one more pristine than the last, until you reach the rocks before Haga Haga. A coastal natural reserve protects the coastal dunes and beaches.
CHINTSA WEST: On the west side of the river, we have Chintsa West. This is a small conglomeration of farms, smallholdings, suburban housing and Holiday accommodation. There are several places of interest:
Tom and Tori Horse and Heart. Horse riding lessons and horse holidays.
Acacia Tree Nursery School: An NPO Waldorf Nursery School for kids up to six years old. This school is one of our partners, and guests on our riding holiday program are welcome to spend time at the project to help the teachers and meet the children.
Buccaneers on the Beach: Buccaneers on the beach are also one of our partners. This is a wide range of accommodations, from fully equipped cottages to dorm beds. They have a bar and have daily breakfasts and suppers on offer. Buccaneers has a swimming pool, a volleyball court, a campsite and access to the beautiful Chintsa River and beach. Many of their guests have come for riding lessons with us, and our Horse Holiday Guests are welcome to use the Buccaneers facilities and socialise at their bar. https://www.buccaneerschintsa.com/
IS CHINTSA A SAFE PLACE TO VISIT? : Chintsa is a family holiday destination for South Africans and international travellers. Cintsa is considered a safe holiday destination, and the local community is very protective of guests as they are a big part of the area's economy. That said, it is advisable not to leave valuable items such as smartphones and laptops lying around in plain sight when unattended, as opportunistic theft may occur.
